Thankful Thanksgiving!

This is one of my two planned nail designs I mentioned a few posts ago. It's sort of a big, fat THANK YOU to anyone who checks out my little nail blog here..and it also fits to be posted around Thanksgiving.

For this design I used my blog readers as inspiration. In blogger it tells you the top 10 countries with people who have viewed your blog (if you have a blog I'm sure you're already aware of this!).  My 10 top pageviews by countries are the United States, Israel, Japan, UK, Philippines, Canada, France, Mexico, Germany, and Italy. This is an idea I've been wanting to do for probably a year and I've finally gotten to do it! Yay!!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!

Inspired by: Monarch Butterflies

Today's nails were inspired by a photo on pinterest that caught my interest (ha, pinterest interest). I went to youtube to find a tutorial I could follow (I honestly did end up following this tutorial even though I don't normally follow tutorials) because the nails looked so awesome. I found this one "Monarch Butterfly Nail Design." The video is included below my nails.
For this design I used: OPI Flit a Bit, Orly Liquid Vinyl, and Orly White Out.

The tutorial was made by Cutepolish. I think I've checked out her designs before. She's super talented and has tons of cute designs so you should totally check the channel out if you're looking for some inspiration!

Award: Liebster Award from Iris

I am long long long overdue with this post. Iris over at Nailart by Iris nominated me as one of her 11 nominees for this award on August 12th! That's almost three full months ago. Anyway, a huge THANK YOU to Iris, one of my favorite nail bloggers I've found online (seriously you should go check her blog out right now!). Now, to the rules!

For the Liebster Award (don't ask me what it means I am sad to say I have no idea! Anyone who DOES know please comment below! =D), you have to do 3 things:

Numero Uno: Post 11 facts about yourself.
Numero Dos: Answer the questions the tagger has asked and then create 11 questions for my nominees.
Numero Tres: Choose 11 nominees with less than 200 followers.

Ok, so kicking off with 11 facts about moi.
#1: Nikkisnailfiles is in its third year! Yay!!
#2: I study law in the United States (where I am also from).
#3: My nail polish collection is just about 150 or so bottles.
#4: I have the most perfect boyfriend in the whole world.
#5: This blog is pretty much a manicure diary of my life since I usually paint my nails for some reason (people's birthdays, holidays, big events, etc.). I always look through the photos and catch myself saying things like "oh yeah, that was when my friend was going to a wedding" or "Those were my birthday nails!"
#6: I never use tutorials to show me HOW to do a design. I usually just jump into trying to get to the end result my own way.
#7:  My nails completely FAIL at being long. I am too rough with my hands so long nails don't last very long with me! Anyone else love short nails?
#8: I am OBSESSED with France. I even took 4 years of French in high school.
#9: I wouldn't be surprised if people thought my cell phone was physically attached to my hand....I'm ALWAYS on it. Seriously.
#10: I like to run.
#11: I am an indoors kind of girl. I enjoy a beautiful looking out a window. You will not catch me camping.

Part 2: 11 questions from Iris
1. What is your favorite food? Sushi.
2. What is your favorite series? TV show series: Revenge, Nashville, Gilmore Girls
3. What's the nicest thing you've ever done for anyone? Ohhh, I have no idea.
4. What is your favorite game? Chess
5. Name a positive trait of yourself: my attention to detail
6. What would you do if you won 1 million dollars? Buy nail polishes of course! (and pay off my student loans)
7. If you had to choose between a boyfriend or a friend what you choose and why? I would choose a boyfriend because then I get both!
8. Name a book that you liked: Daemon by Daniel Suarez.
9. Which country would you like to go to? FRANCE!!!
10. What hobbies do you have? Painting my nails and blogging of course!
11. Are you a morning or night person? Why? I am a night person. I blame it on the years I worked as a late night waitress. I'm just always much more active at night.

Part 3: Nominees
I nominate anyone who wants this award! By reading this post you have earned it! Make sure to comment below so I can check out your blog though! And for my 11 questions to you:
1. Why did you start blogging?

Rosy Reptile

After breaking out my BundleMonster plates for this recent manicure I was reminded of just how neat I thought stamping was. I really enjoy how absolutely perfect each nail comes out (every single one looks exactly like the other) and how quick and easy it is to use a stamp and jazz up an otherwise plain manicure. Stamping lets me add some pizzazz in literally no time at all!
I call this my Rosy Reptile manicure because, at least to me, the stamp I used reminded me of scales. The two pinks I used were two of my favorites: Zoya Nicole (which my boyfriend bought for me...and it's obviously my favorite because it's my name =) I think everyone should own a polish named after them!) and Zoya Kristi. Nicole was my base on the eight fingers and then Kristi was the stamp. Then I inverted the design for my ring fingers. I was online yesterday looking at Zoya's new polishes (I'm way behind in all the new polishes that have come out this summer/recently) and I'm definitely feeling the itch to splurge on a bunch! But I'm trying really hard to wait until the summer before buying any new ones!! The stamp was BundleMonster plate 208.

Also, I have two nail posts already planned. I'm at school right now waiting for my next class to begin and all I want to do is go home and polish!! Thank god it's a weekend!!

Cherry Blossom

This isn't one of my best nail's sloppy and wonky but I wanted to post it anyway because I always say how this blog is for all the designs I try to do...which includes both the good and the bad. So we can just add this one to the "Just Me and My Jack" pumpkin glow in the dark lumpy manicure from last October on the bad list.

For this design I used Orly White Out for the background, Orly Holiday Glow for the tree, FingerPaints I Pink I Can for the outer leaves, and Zoya Kristi for the inner leaves. It makes me want to go the the Cherry Blossom Festival in Philly every April.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everybody! My Halloween nails aren't exactly spooktacular BUT they do have a tie to Halloween. Has anyone ever seen the movie Hocus Pocus?! It's one of my favorites and I always watch it on Halloween!

The three Sanderson sisters...characters in the movie of course. They inspired 3/5ths of this manicure and I hope you can tell how!
My index, middle, and ring fingers are all inspired by the corsets! Purple and pink for Sarah Jessica Parker, green and blue for Bette Midler, and orange and red for Kathy Najimy. Then on my pinkie is Frankenstein (a cute frankenstein if you ask me) and on my thumb is a mummy.

Inspired by: Raspberry Lemonade Blistex

Inspiration really does come from everywhere. Today, my inspiration for a nail design actually came from a bottle of Raspberry Lemonade Blistex chapstick. Seriously. There was something about the red and yellow combo that got me thinking about a nail design. I don't think I've ever paired yellow and red before in a design. For this look I used China Glaze Solar Power, Zoya Kristi, and BundleMonster plate 208.

I have to say, I really really like this pairing. And it makes me wish I had raspberry lemonade to drink! (Especially while I wait for Hurricane Sandy to come through here..)

At it again: Zebra

After posting my leopard manicure I wanted to do yet another manicure....more zebra! I liked the glitzy-ness of the gold in the leopard mani so I wanted to have a sparkle element in a zebra manicure too!

For this look I used China Glaze Recycle, Orly Liquid Vinyl, and Essence Silver Surfer.

It's l-e-o-P-a-r-d not l-e-o-T-a-r-d!

Obviously after posts like this one, or this one, or maybe any one of these, it's pretty clear I have been bit by animal print fever for a while now (It's sort of like Bieber Fever...only better). I've done mostly zebra since it's my favorite print but I've also tried some leopard and even peacock. This time I decided to try a bit more leopard in gold and black.

Feeling blue?

Hey everyone, just a quick post of the nails I painted during the presidential debate tonight. How do you like? I feel like I'm running a marathon with this whole law school thing and I have a list of manicures I can't wait to get done!! They seem to be having to wait until my winter break though in December unfortunately. So much to do, so little time!!

Skateboarder Birthday Nails!!

It's one of my precious cousin's birthdayssss today!! Of course, I like to celebrate things by doing what? Painting my nails! While I was trying to come up with an idea, I remembered when he visited us for the Fourth of July he posed an idea for a post on my blog: Skateboard Logos. So...I searched high and low for possible ideas because this girl right here has NO familiarity of skateboard logos. I did date a skateboarder when I was 16 though...he was all about DC and I may have a pair of Vans sneakers in my closet still from that time as we speak.

So, after googling ideas I settled on (and I hope they're recognizable):
Thumb - Vans
Index - DC
Middle Finger - Just a shadow of  my cousin on his skateboard :)
Ring finger: Santa Cruz
Pinkie - Fallen

...I hope they're skateboard logos...

My Mini Minions!

Hello minions!!
Just kidding, you're not minions-- but I do have 5 mini minions on my nails right now!! I'm so excited for Despicable Me 2 and it doesn't even come out until June 2013!!

Things have been so crazy lately. Law school is leaving me absolutely no time whatsoever to do anything but read cases, outline, read more cases, and outline more. Ughhh! Where does my time go?

Happy 2nd Birthday NikkisNailFiles

Two years ago I listened to an idea that my older sister had and created this blog to keep track of my nail designs. I'm so pleased to be still updating it now, two years into it. I know I don't post as frequently as I did when I first started but I'm really trying to keep bringing new designs and new things to this blog. If any reader has feedback, suggestions, or post ideas I would love to hear them!!

I just love the summer Olympics. The opening ceremony, the team outfits, the excitement, the knowledge we won't get to see it for another four years...what's not to enjoy? My favorite sport is, of course, gymnastics. That goes without saying really and the Fierce Five did absolutely phenomenal: first place team AND first place individual gymnast. GO GOLD!
Please excuse the over painted index finger. I think I forgot where my nail ended and my skin began...

Levi's Look and Tahlia's Tootsies

I know I'm late with this but....Happy 4th of July! to all of my fellow American readers! I have a few treats for you all!

First up, my family from California came to visit this week and spent the fourth of July with us!!My cousins are getting so big! Levi is practically getting his first full time job and Tahlia is about to start driving. Ok, I'm only kidding, they're still under 10 but regardless...I'm feeling very old. While they were here they asked if I could do their nails. They looove looking at this blog and are some of my best followers :) Here their nails are:

First up, *drumroll please* the gentleman Levi:

Get Levi's look: Very festive American flags on the toes and gray and black on the fingers. I won't lie, these designs didn't last too long...but what can I say? Levi is very athletic! He was climbing  trees, running around,  playing basketball and nail polish doesn't stand up too well to those activities :)

Second we have *drumroll please* Tahlia's tootsies: I take great pride in being privileged enough to have given her her first mani/pedi =D What an honor!
She picked five different shades of blues and wanted white polka dots on her toes. Seriously, painting these was so stressful. She has the tiniest little nails! I kept having to wipe it off her skin. I think they came out really well though :) She sat very still and didn't get any smudges! (Which is a skill because when my mom gets her nails done she gets a smudge EVERY time. Literally.) OH AUNT LES WHAT IS THAT FINGER NAIL?! I should have given you a manicure too! Unpolished nails?! How unsightly! Just kidding :)

Third, since they are 3 and 7 I found a picture of my older sister when we were...somewhere around that age.
How cool is our Barbie Jeep? I wouldn't know since my sister NEVER let me drive it! Perhaps Freud would say that's why I love driving as much as I do right now.

And lastly we have my nail design for the Independence Day. I live in a town that does a parade in the morning (which is where that picture of my sister and me is from) and then they do a fair for the week and a fireworks show at night. Of course, I had to attempt fireworks:
And so you know I actually do both of my hands and not just my left:
I loved having my California family come visit us this summer! We never get to see them and it was nice to finally meet Tahlia. I haven't seen her since she was born. And Levi is getting so big. Last time I saw him I was graduating from high school. Now I've graduated from college and I got to see them. I guess this means I'll be seeing them when I graduate law school! How fun! I would loooove to take Andrew to California (he's never been), see them, get to see their new house (they moved from the beautiful blue Victorian --at least I think it was a Victorian style house...what am I a real estate agent? I'm fairly certain I remember it being blue though), and trance around California for a bit. It will be a great way to de-stress before *dare I say it* taking the bar exam! Ugh, the thought of that already makes me nervous! Also, Andrew's crazy awesome idea of a job is at Google so maybe we'll be spending more time in California than I think.

Well, I guess all that's left to say is Happy Fourth of July one more time and I'll be seeing you guys for our next four year check-in =) And then maybe more often if Andrew actually gets to California and I'm still with him! *Fingers crossed*

Graduation Nails!

Hey everybody! Graduation is coming up on SATURDAYYYY!!! Wahoooo! Also, in an amazing trick of scholarly awesomeness and academic success: I have received all As for this semester! That's right: 5 classes. 5 As. 4.0 GPA for the semester. BAM! I'm so ecstatic! And I'm talking REAL classes not a mix of 2 hard classes with 2 gym classes or easy crap. I'm talking 5 legit classes (minus Sign Language maybe but really I totally count it!)

Here are my graduation nails for Saturday morning: I hope they stay nice! Our school colors are blue and gray so I thought this could be simple but still fitting.
Class of 2012 baby!!!

EDIT 9/2012: There's nothing like photo evidence right?

Wednesday, May 2, 2012

I know this is totally out of character for me since I have kept this blog strictly nails galore for the most part BUTTT I have some exciting news :) I celebrated 2 years with my adorable boyfriend April 24th! Unfortunately, I had to wait to actually celebrate until I got to see him this past weekend but still...totally worth it. This photo is where we officially became a couple! Yes, I say "officially" because he literally asked me to be his girlfriend. I know, he's old school...and I love it! This picture is an overlook near the college and since he's into nature and being outside and all those shenanigans (just kidding) I took him there once. He really liked it so we went there again and apparently that's where he thought it would be best to ask me to be his girlfriend. Thinking back on it may be a good thing I said yes! :) Being that we were in a could have ended pretty badly ;) Just kidding! Anyway, every April 24th since 4-24-2010, he has asked me to let him be my boyfriend for longer. Of course, I always say yes! I love him so much <3

Don't mind the picture behind it at the top. I always crop these in paint and I obviously didn't pay enough attention to the borders on this one. Ugh!

And how beautiful are these roses? Andrew surprised me with them when he came from the train station. 24 roses for 24 months! I wonder how long he'll match the roses to the months...that has to be expensive! I love my boyfriend so much =)
And a picture of us....just for good measure:
Now you got to know the Nikki behind the nails a little bit.

See look, I'm more than just Miss Manicures over here!

Toetally Tuesday is back!

Finally, another Toetally Tuesday post to show the tootsies some love. I'm pretty sure it's been months since my last toetally Tuesday post so it's about time I have another! I know I've been going crazy with polka dots recently but I just love all the colors and things you can do with polka dots (and it's so simple!).
 And a close up:

Inspired by Pinterest: Pretty Polka Dotties

It's nasty out today...rainy, cold, dreary as all get out. If my mood matched the weather I'd be fashioning a noose for myself. HOWEVER, I like to take dark, rainy, disgusting days and do my nails with fun and bright colors and designs. For today I chose this one:
I found a picture of this nail design on pinterest:
All my readers know I prefer to attempt designs I see rather than ones I come up with (since I can never get them done as well as I envisioned). I didn't originally like it but it's definitely growing on me as I sit here staring. I just love how each nail ties in with each other nail. Very neat idea for whoever came up with it!
How are your days going? Rainy like mine?

Toetally (not) Tuesday - Skittle Toes

I know it's not technically I can't really call this a Toetally Tuesday post but it is of my tootsies so I can call it what I want! :) These are my version of skittle toes! Blues on the big toe, pinks on the second, purples on the third, greens on the fourth, and oranges on the fifth. Silver lines separate the toe colors.

Ahhh today was so glad I got to spend a few hours outside!

I wanna see your peacock-cock-cock

Alright so to be honest, I don't actually care for the Katy Perry song that this post is named for. However, I do like some of Katy Perry's tunes so I'm not hating on her completely! I did my friend S's nails to look like peacock feathers (or I tried) and, while it didn't work out as I had hoped, I still wanted to post them and share them. Here they are!
And just for those of you who may not remember or know about the song....

Pastel Polka Dots

I know I'm almost 22 (almost 22?!) and all...but yes, my mom still makes an Easter basket for me. =) Of course it had peanut butter cups and jelly beans in it but it also had a few other goodies like NEW CHINA GLAZE POLISHES! Three new polishes to be exact: Electric Beat, Peachy Keen, & Sunset Sail. Obviously, I took it as an opportunity to use one of the new polishes ASAP so I chose Peachy Keen and did a little Easter polka-dotting.
Sorry about the chip on my index finger...these nails have been done since Wednesday...
