Swatch: Essie Knee High Life

My sister gave me this nail polish as a random gift one day and I am so thankful she did because not only is the color absolutely gorgeous BUT the name is totally awesome. We both went to an all girls private high school when we were younger and that came with a uniform, including knee highs. So I guess you could say we really did live the "knee high life" like this polish is named.
This polish is a really pretty berry/wine type color. It has an excellent formula and dries well.
And here is a photo of the infamous uniform....with knee highs of course! Turns out that after you graduate your private school uniform becomes a perfect go-to Halloween costume. Haha.
Check out those knee highs. And yes, Husband was Charlie Brown. Lol. Also say hello to some of my college buds!

I'm so glad it's Wednesday. This week has been so busy running from courthouse to courthouse. I didn't even make it to the office on Monday or Tuesday. And tomorrow is going to be the same. Can it be the weekend already?? At least the weather is nice so I can finally go for a run outside! How is your week going?

Weekly Roundup: Food + Fitness

Ughhh. This week I contemplated not even putting up a Weekly Roundup because I have been sick. And it wasn't the...
...kind of sick. It was the can't focus, can't think, body pain, fever, sore throat, coughing, no voice, knock out cold that had me thanking my lucky stars that I don't have any kids. Seriously, how do moms do it?! I can't remember the last time I was sick like this. 13 years ago?? Anyway, because my husband can fend for himself I was able to curl up in bed and just focus on getting better--and that's exactly what I did. He was so sweet though and did act as caretaker when it was really bad. I guess we did take that "in sickness and in health" vow. Glad to know he'll stick to it! Lol.

I first started getting sick on Sunday morning which kind of sucked because it was Easter and all and I was visiting with family. Not that I let it stop me. I came in second in the Adult Easter Egg Hunt (don't mock me) only because of a certain fall and my sister stealing THREE of my eggs. LOL. But when we left I had a massive headache, fever, and chills all at the same time. I went right to bed and then worked on and off from home over the next two days. Food and fitness just wasn't a priority this week. But I will share some highlights, because consistency is key to establishing a blog serious, right?

Food
To be honest, most of my meals looked like this:

Yep, LOTS of tea consumed over here this week. On the plus side, the tea I was guzzling was imported to the United States from England's Fortnum & Mason store where Husband and I had our tea tasting during our honeymoon. It had the authentic taste and transported me right back to London so it was a really nice (and tasty) way to distract myself from the nastiness I was feeling physically. And I got to break out my rarely used high school mug, so that was nice. I could live at Fortnum & Mason in Piccadilly if they'd let me. I have a major obsession with their "hampers" but I won't buy one because they are so expensive and I can't imagine the importing would go very well.

As for meals, I honestly can't remember what I ate when over this week. I know that one of the nights I had some leftover Easter ham and mashed potatoes, which were delicious. We also grilled up some burgers (tonight) which has me soooo excited for summer. I cannot wait for summer cookouts, barbecues, and just grilling various dinners and hanging outside. Obviously it's too cold to grill in the winter so I'm super excited that the weather *should* be getting nicer. Any day now...
Husband is such a good doctor. He obviously knew I was sick and he surprised me with the "Doctor's Orders" AKA matzo ball soup and potato latkes. I neeeeed to learn how to make matzo ball soup. It is so delicious. I don't care that I'm not Jewish. Whoever said chicken noodle soup is the sick soup was wrong. Matzo ball soup is so much better.
And because I was too lazy to pack lunch this week I did stop at Chik Fil A after my doctor's appointment on Wednesday. When Husband saw the Chik Fil A bag all I could say was "I'm sick" and duck under the covers. Such clean eating, right??

Fitness
As for Fitness, if you count burrowing under covers, coughing excessively, and walking from the bed to the couch as a workout then I worked out A LOT. If you don't think those things qualify (you'd be right), then I did a whole lot of nothing.

I'm not 100% back to normal yet--I still have a decent cough--but my throat feels like it is functioning again so I'm hoping to get to the gym this week just to do a slow jog. I didn't need to get sick this month. My tough mudder is in like....a month! I need to be training! Lol.

Swatch: Sinful Colors Alfresco

Am I the only one looking forward to dining "al fresco" (which is fancy pants speak for "eating outside") during the nice spring/summer weather? I am dreaming of the day we grill up some kabobs, kick back with a raspberry/watermelon girly drink, and just relax. And this nail polish might just be perfect for those comfy summer nights outside enjoying company of friends and family. This is Sinful Colors Alfresco, a stunning blue polish which is as breathtaking in photographs as it is IRL. Look at that vivid color!
I'll admit it. I think Sinful Colors is hit and miss. But this polish is a big big big hit. Some Sinful Colors polishes take too many coats to cover visible nail line and lack the saturation I crave but this one is a gorgeous creme. To me, a good polish is all about the formulation.
This is from the Sinful Colors "Sinful Shine with Gel Tech" 2 step gel line and I think it's the only one I have in my collection. Obvi, that needs to change immediately because I cannot say enough good things about this color. The formula is so good, it went on even in 2 coats, it dried quickly, and it has that signature gel shine finish without the whole I-now-have-to-soak-my-nails-in-100%-acetone-for-2-hours removal thing. I'm a big big fan. Huge. In fact, I may have 8 more nail polishes in my online cart right now. Okay, okay, I have 11. Don't judge me.
I don't actually have the Sinful Colors "Step 2" top coat for this line but I used the top coat I got in my OPI Infinite Shine set instead. I didn't notice any issue so I think it's fine to mix and switch brands.
Worked like a charm and the nails looked great. Of course I topped the gel top coat off with Seche Vite for the quick-drying quality. Does anyone else notice that gel top coats take foreeeeever to harden (for the brands where you don't use a curing light)? Seche Vite cuts down on that dramatically so you can get on with your day that much faster. And when you're a busy gal (or guy), quick is the name of the game.
Stunning. And for $2.99? You can't beat it! I love really vivid polish and this might be my new favorite for the coming months. I'll have to see if it wears better/longer since it has that gel tech in it!

Have you ever mixed base, color, and top coat brands before? Ever had a problem with it?

Can you believe it's already Friday?! This week FLEW BY.

Spring Shopping List: Athletic Wear

This post is kind of out of character for this blog BUT I figure why not??

I can't remember if I mentioned this yet on the blog but, if not, I have signed up for a Tough Mudder Half race in May! Luckily, I signed up along with my brother and my brother-in-law who will helpfully be able to lift me over the obstacles. But anyway, I needed to do an overhaul of my athletic wear for my "training" for the race. Hah! So I started online shopping at various places for not only "training" gear but also to try to decide what to wear for the actual Tough Mudder race. By far my favorite clothes have come from Target, Old Navy, Nike, and UnderArmour. And what do I notice today? A sale!
Uhm, yes please! I'm thinking of purchasing these babies:
Because those polka dot pants are ADORABLE--though I'm not sure about the high waist/drawstring thing. And can you ever have enough sports bras? I mean they won't be good options for running (I need SUPPORT do you hear me??) but I love the pink color and the multicolor stripe design. And that muscle shirt just makes me laugh. I don't think I'm fit enough for the whole workout-slogan-gear yet but it's so cute!

Does anyone know what to wear for a Tough Mudder? I know you're not supposed to wear anything you like because, well, mud, but I don't have any good moisture-wicking options and I have read that that is required for comfort during the race. Any ideas?? Looks like I have more shopping to do.

Easter 2018

As I write this I am cuddled up under my comforter on the couch because I am home sick from work. It feels so bad to take a sick day but I have no voice, a fever, and am fluctuating between chills and sweats. I don't know what is wrong and I usually would go into work anyway but nope not this time. This time I am actually sick and am spending the day on the couch watching TV and sleeping. But this blog party must go on right?

So, as many of you know this past Sunday was Easter. So, to all who celebrate, Happy Easter! Also, Happy Passover to all my Jewish visitors. For my nails I chose springtime pastels in a polka dot tip. I used a nude base and then dotted Zoya Ireland, Zoya Kristen, Zoya Cole, and I can't remember the pink-purple color!
Husband and I spent the day doing traditional Easter shenanigans before heading to my parents' house for Easter Dinner and a bit more shenanigans. For example, Easter baskets!
And then an Easter egg hunt...because I'm five years old and figured why not?

It was only 24 eggs and I filled them with Chex Mix and almonds instead of even more candy. How much candy do you really need??
My favorite hiding places were above the doorbell box and on the dining room light.
Then we dyed some eggs. My absolute favorite is the pink, orange, yellow one. It's like a sunset!
Yep, we basically pretended we were kids. Who says Easter baskets, dying eggs, and egg hunts are only for kids though?? Lol.

How was your weekend? What did you do?
