Our morning began with an adventure of its own--trying to find the vaparetto stop and to buy tickets. Luckily we did that quickly and we even found a gas station...for the boats.
The first island we stopped at was Burano, which is colorful island famous for its lace. It is the cutest and most picturesque island ever.
It even has a super tiny lace museum, Museo del Merletto, that you can visit really cheaply and see all sorts of needle lace designs. The museum itself is located where an old lace making school, the Burano Lace School, operated between 1872 and 1970. You could even see the old chairs they used.
After Burano, we boated to Murano, an island famous for its unparalleled handmade glass to visit some shops and stop in the Venice Glass Museum.
This day was also our actual one year wedding anniversary and Andrew made surprise reservations at the most amazing restaurant. On our way to dinner we stopped at the Rialto Bridge for a quick photo op. Then we continued to dinner. Now, while the dinner itself was delicious, what made this restaurant so amazing was that they made us a first anniversary cake.
It's tradition to save the top layer of your wedding cake to eat on your one year wedding anniversary but we obviously couldn't bring the top layer of our wedding cake with us to Italy, not that I didn't google "how long does buttercream last non-refrigerated" or anything. So having a special first anniversary cake just for us was really spectacular and the perfect way to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Even now I am still blown away at how thoughtful my husband was to make our first wedding anniversary truly special and a wonderful way to close out our Venice visit.
